Jayati Bhatia was born on 28 July 1970 in Orissa, India. Jayati Bhatia is an Indian actress. She was born in an originally Bengali family, in the house of Chhoba Chatterjee. She entered the world of television in the year 1995. Jayati rose to fame by playing the role of Nirmala “Mataji” Bhardwaj in the serial Sasural Simar ka (2011–2018) broadcast on Colors TV.

Jayati Bhatia and Kiran Bhatia met for the first time when Jayati reached the sets for the shooting of her first drama. After dating for some time, both of them got married on March 12, 1992. Some time ago Jayati and Kiran faced an accident. In April 2017, while visiting the sets of Sasural Simar, some goons had an altercation with Kiran and he was beaten up. Due to which Kiran got seriously injured. And remained hospitalized for a long time.

Jayati Bhatia is originally Bengali, she was born in Odisha, India. When she was only one month old, her mother Choba Chatterjee came to Delhi with her.  As a child, she trained in classical Odissi, but has admitted that she found Western dance forms difficult. No one knows about Jayati’s father. But photos of her brother and sister are seen in the media every day. Jayati’s sister Mitul Chatterjee and brother Surjit Chatterjee are seen with Jayati every day.

A few years ago, on 26 May 2022, Jayati’s mother Chhoba Chatterjee (21 June 1947 – 26 May 2022) died at the age of 74. Jayati tells that this year proved to be very sad for her and her family helped her to overcome this sorrow.

Career

Jayati Bhatia debuted in the Hindi television industry in 1995 as Khushnuma with Challenge. She played the character of Kumud in the serial “Tu Tu Main Main” released on Star Plus. Worked closely with producer Ekta Kapoor in the serial Kanyadaan and also played a small role in her production history. She played the character of Geetu Basu in the cult classic daily soap Kasauti Zindagi Ki for three consecutive years from 2003 to 2006.

In 2003, she was also seen as the lead role’s friend Bindiya in the serial Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahin aired on Sony TV. After this, in the year 2005, she was cast in the role of Titli in the serial Sindoor Tere Naam telecast on Zee TV.

From 2006 to 2007, she played the role of Mishti in another TV venture Mamta.

After serials, Jayati left her mark in films also. She started her film career with the drama 68 Pages directed by Sridhar Rangayan, in the film she played the role of commercial sex worker Payal. It premiered worldwide at the International Film Festival of Kerala and was shown at several international film festivals. Returning to television, she reunited with Ekta Kapoor to play the role of Pammi Godbole in Sony TV’s romantic-comedy Kuch Is Asee Ke from 2007 to 2008. Jayati then went on to be seen in both serials and films such as In 2009, Bhatia played the role of Gursheel Malhotra in Star Plus’ Sabki Laadli Bebo. Her second film, Raja Krishna Menon’s black comedy Barah Aana, was also released in the same year.

From 2010 to 2011, she played the role of Manju, a noisy neighbor, in Star Plus’ Sasural Genda Phool. Subsequently, in April 2011, Bhatia got the biggest (in terms of success) and highly acclaimed break of her career in Colors TV’s soap opera Sasural Simar Ka, where she played the role of Nirmala “Mataji” Bhardwaj, the matriarch of the Bhardwaj family. The serial became one of the highest-rated television shows on the TRP charts and made it one of the longest running Indian television series before ending in March 2018 after a successful run of seven consecutive years.

After this, in the year 2020, Her first web series project Tansenar Tanpura premiered on the OTT platform Hoichoi. From August 2020 to January 2021, she starred as Nutan Jaiswal in Star Plus’ rom-com Lockdown Ki Love Story. In the second season of the web series Girls Hostel, streamed digitally on the OTT platform SonyLIV, he played the role of Dean.

She recently played the role of Fatto in the latest release of 2024, Sanjay Leela Bhansali‘s Web Series Heeramandi and received a lot of praise from fans.
