Alka and Shekhar’s love story began in 1982 on the campus of Delhi University. Both studied in the same college. They met through a common friend. Gradually the couple traveled from friends to lovers. Recalling their youthful days, Shekhar once said in an interview how their affection for each other rapidly turned into deep love for each other.
They said ” It was love at first sight, so naturally the attraction was physical. She was the most beautiful girl I had laid my eyes upon; she possessed all the qualities that epitomizes a typical Indian woman”
Family
There were 6 members in Shekhar Suman’s family. He has three sisters. He has two younger sisters named Sakthi and Namrata. His father’s name is Phani Bhushan Prasad, he was the head of health services of Bihar government and a well-known surgeon. Shekhar’s mother Usha Prasad died in 2021 due to kidney related diseases.
He married Alka Kapoor. After marriage, they both had two sons, Adhyayan Suman and Ayush Suman. The year 1995 was very sad for them because their elder son Ayush Suman died on 3 April 1995 at the age of 11 due to a heart problem. His wife Alka Suman always supported him and stood by him. Later they had a son named Adhyayan Suman, who is now a Bollywood actor.

Shekhar Suman completed his schooling from St. Xavier’s High School, Patna and Vikas Vidyalaya, Ranchi. After completing high school, Shekhar joined Ramjas College, Delhi University, to pursue a degree in Arts (with specialization in History).
Shekhar aspired to become an IAS officer during his college days. Shortly after completing his degree, Shekhar got a job as a repertory actor at Shri Ram Centre. Shekhar worked there for some time before taking up a job at Oberoi.

Career
An important contributor to the Indian entertainment industry is actor comedian and television personality Shekhar Suman. Apart from acting, he is also famous for his wit and comedy. He has displayed these qualities in several television programs including Movers and Shakers Pol Khol and The Great Indian Laughing Challenge.
He started his film career with Film Utsav, in a few years he acted in more than 35 films, which include films like Manav Hatiya, Naache Mayuri, Sansar, Anubhav, Tridev, Pati Parmeshwar and Ranbhoomi.
Along with films, Shekhar Suman acted in the serial Wah Janab in the year 1984. Some of his serials became hits like Dekh Bhai Dekh, Reporter, Kabhi Idhar Kabhi Udhar, Chote Babu, Andaz, Amar Prem, Vilayati Babu, Movers n Shakers, Simply Shekhar, and Carry On Shekhar.
Political Career
Shekhar Suman joined Congress in May 2009. He contested the Lok Sabha elections from Patna Sahib on a Congress ticket in the same year, and finished third, losing to BJP’s Shatrughan Sinha. Shekhar Suman became active in politics again after a long break. On Tuesday, he left Congress and joined BJP.
